Wamatangi Football Champions Cup Tournament is back

Kiambu all stars in a previous game. The Wamatangi tournament will be held in the next 10 days.

The Governor Wamatangi Football Championships will take place on the 27th of October at the Kirigiti International Stadium, Kiambu County. The football matches that were initially planned to take place on June 30 earlier this year at the aforementioned stadium had been postponed indefinitely.

Ali Osman Korar, the County Executive Committee Member for Youth Affairs and Sports in Kiambu County (CECM) confirmed that the cup finals will be between Githunguri Seniors FC(Githunguri) and Butterfly Football Club(Ruiru) and third playoffs between Copia FC(Ruiru) and B.Fast football club(Limuru).

Both teams secured their places in the finals by defeating their opponents, B.Fast FC and Copia FC, respectively while Butterfly F.C. became the first team to secure their place in the finals by defeating Copia FC team 2-0 at Thika Stadium on February 25th of this year.

Kiambu County Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi announced that the winners of the Kiambu Champions Cup Football Tournament will receive the following prize under the different categories with the winning team going home with Shs. 500,000/, Runners up will receive Shs. 250,000/.

“Third placed will received Shs. 100,000 while the fourth team will walk away with Shs. 50,000/ respectively”, Wamatangi had promised during the launch of the Kiambu Champions Cup Football Tournament last year  The Governor said that the program reflects his commitment to developing the sports industry, increasing employment opportunities within it, and providing young people with a stable pathway to careers in football.

“To ensure the tournament’s success and sustainability for sports development, my administration is refurbishing several stadiums and playing fields throughout the county,” Wamatangi stated The Governor’s pledge has been fulfilled through the upgrading of several stadiums in the county, notably Thika, Kagwe, and Githunguri Stadiums, along with Kanjeru Stadium in Gitaru Ward, Thigio Grounds in Ndeiya Ward, Limuru Sub-County, and the grand Kirigiti International Stadium in Kiambu Township Ward
