Dialogue

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has expressed optimism that a majority of residents support the position of ODM leader Raila Odinga on the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco). She said that the report contains remedies to issues that the youths (Gen Zs) and other Kenyans have been raising.

The Nadco report was midwifed by a bipartisan team which took views from Kenyans on the best reforms they wanted implemented. The team was constituted after Azimio supporters and other Kenyans engaged in street protests as they demanded the cost of living be lowered.

Other issues they protested against are high taxation, alleged corruption and joblessness among the youths. Wanga claimed that a majority of residents support Nadco because with its full implementation, many issues will be resolved.

“I have no doubt that many Homa Bay people support Raila and the plan to have a national conversation,” she said. Wanga said that full implementation of the report will ensure Kenyans get the reforms they wanted. The Governor spoke Thursday in Karachuonyo during the launch of a programme to improve structures for Early Year Education (EYE) children.

She applauded Azimio leaders Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka for attending the signing of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission amendment bill by President Ruto at KICC. “We must understand that Kenya is at crossroads and dialogue is what can help us get solutions to our problems. And that is why the signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill last Tuesday was a big stride the country made,” Wanga said.

The Governor asked the youth who have been criticizing Raila over dialogue to give him a chance saying he understands their needs and those of other Kenyans. She stressed that Raila has the best interests of Kenyans at heart.
