Civil servants implicated in fake academic certificates scandals have been put on notice, to reimburse the salaries they have received from the government. President William Ruto directed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to intervene if resistance occurs.
Recently, the Public Service Commission (PSC) exposed that more than 2,100 public officers secured positions in government through fake academic documents that earned them promotions.
Addressing attendees at the 2024 National Wage Bill Conference in Nairobi, Ruto said that his government will be firm on individuals benefiting from public funds through fraudulent means.
“EACC and DCI must act swiftly to recover public resources expended on these individuals,” said Ruto, directing that individuals employed in the government roles employed with forged certificates should resign.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua supported Ruto’s sentiments, saying there are persons in leadership positions who lacked proper certifications.
