Enterprise
Reagan Rajuoy adds to the list of the many graduates who after failing to secure formal employment in their profession, develop an enterprising spirit and come up with an income generating activity so as to be able to generate income.
Despite having a degree in tourism studies from Moi University, the young man from Luanda South ward, Luanda sub county, Vihiga County, has ventured into event organizing, hiring out the public address system and doing the emceeing. He narrates that he was first employed in a supermarket in Nakuru town where he worked for about a year and saved something from his salary with the intention of buying a laptop, a mega sound system, sound mixer and a power generator.
Armed with this machinery, he left Nakuru for home with a clear plan in his mind to run his own business, well determined to succeed. He says at first, that is in the year 2017, he would charge a meagre Sh. 2,000 per day for a funeral event in a low income household but the charges have risen to over Sh. 20,000 for high profile families.
Over a period of time, Rajuay expanded his business by purchasing tents and chairs thereby adopting the trade name Rajuoba Enterprises. The entrepreneur, who is a key boarder, states that the powerful modern sound equipment attracts a lot of clients especially in religious groups which often seek his services.
To make movement easy and to tap into a wider clientele, he acquired a pick-up on which they mount the sound system as well as enabling mobility. He discloses that he partners with other similar service providers in case an event requires more than what he can offer. The enterprise employs about five to 10 casual workers depending on the availability and the magnitude of events.
He intends to acquire modern equipment such as the line array, aluminum mobile stages, customizable tents, modern decoration artificial material, high quality carpets, lighting in order to attract high profile clientele. “It is our ambition that we become the best event organizers in the western region and ultimately attain a national reputation for our service,” he noted.
