In a progressive move to enhance the well-being of its younger population, Nakuru County is advancing its vision of creating accessible, youth-centered health services. The County’s Department of Health, aligning with the broader goal of empowering young people, is rolling out initiatives aimed at transforming health centers into vibrant, youth-friendly spaces.
One of the flagship efforts under this initiative was today showcased at Rhonda Health Centre in Nakuru West, where 37 young people gathered for a dedicated mini-outreach event. The event underscored the county’s commitment to addressing the unique health needs of adolescents and young adults, a demographic that often faces barriers in accessing tailored healthcare services. The event was opened by County Executive Secretary for Health Ms. Roselyn Mungai.
During the event, the youth participated in engaging health talks that tackled issues directly relevant to their age group. These discussions provided a platform for young people to voice their concerns, share experiences and learn about the comprehensive range of healthcare options available to them, from primary care at Level 1 facilities to specialized services at Level 5 hospitals.
The youth in attendance didn’t just listen-they actively contributed, expressing a clear desire for expanded and improved services at the Rhonda Health Centre. Their feedback has already sparked action and the center has officially launched its youth-friendly services, designed to meet the evolving needs of young people in the area.
The Nakuru West Sub-County Health Management Team, recognizing the importance of youth input, has committed to integrating the recommendations made during the forum. This promises to transform the Rhonda Health Centre into a more dynamic and responsive environment, where young people can access not just medical care, but also the support and resources they need to thrive.
Ms. Mungai said this initiative is part of a larger county-wide strategy aimed at creating safe, supportive spaces for youth across Nakuru. By prioritizing the voices and needs of young people, the county is taking significant steps towards building a healthier, more inclusive future for its residents.
As these youth-friendly centers continue to evolve, they stand as a testament to Nakuru County’s dedication to fostering an environment where the younger generation can grow, learn, and lead healthier lives.
