Empowerment
Suna West Member of Parliament Peter Masara has urged the youths to form groups and Sacco’s to benefit from funds both at the county and national level.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of equipment and a vehicle to various Sacco’s at Migori primary school, Masara said that youths can only benefit from funds like youth empowerment funds, Constituency Development Funds and NGOs if fully incorporated in Sacco’s.
“The high unemployment rate in the country can be addressed if youths can utilize funds and grants opportunities to establish sustainable businesses for self-employment,” he said. He noted that it was high time the youths embraced technical skills and courses over degrees to help them adjust in a competitive market environment.
The legislator also added that job creation and empowering the community, especially the vulnerable class that includes women, youths and those living with disabilities, can benefit if economically empowered through Sacco’s rather than tokenism. Masara however, noted that unemployment is a global issue and urged the youths to be innovative and creative to create job opportunities instead of seeking white-collar jobs which have become rare.
The MP also encouraged the youths to utilize the completed Suna West CDF-built Information, Communication and Technology Centre (ICT) center and public library to self-employ themselves in the digital world.
David Oluoch, the Chairperson of the Mumbasi Sacco thanked the MP for donating a Probox to the Sacco. He said that the new vehicle will economically empower the Sacco members as well as create job employment for the youths.
