Residents of Lokotum in Nanam Ward, Turkana County, under the auspices of the County Government’s water access initiative, are poised to receive a new water pan in the ongoing 2023–2024 financial year.

The construction of the water pan, designed to accommodate 350,000 liters of water, will commence promptly upon the site’s handover to the contractor.

Addressing stakeholders at the site, Chief Officer for Water Services, David Maraka, emphasized the consultative approach undertaken in the decision-making process, guided by evidence provided by the Sub County Water Office.

Chief Officer Maraka underscored the department’s commitment to the full implementation of all projects slated for the 2023–2024 period.

Instructing the contractor to expedite the process, Maraka urged for the completion of the project within two weeks, in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.

Ward Administrator Alfred Nangole expressed optimism about the project, citing its potential to alleviate the strain on the existing Kapetadie water point and significantly reduce the travel distance for locals by up to 15 kilometers.

“Our people have endured hardships, often having to travel long distances, sometimes even to neighboring South Sudan. This water pan will provide much-needed relief,” remarked Ward Administrator Nangole.

“Continuous project monitoring exercises will be conducted throughout the construction phase to ensure adherence to standards and the completion of all components,” Chief Officer Maraka assured residents.

The site’s handover was attended by Engineers Frederick Rukoo and Jackson Egusii, Ruth Kemei of Procurement, and residents.
